St. Nicholas Malawi Initiative
Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who
are members of my family, you did it to me. Matthew 25.40
Making A Difference:
Building up specific relationships with named individuals, especially in the most influential Church organisations:
- The Session, which carries immense power and influence
- The Women’s Guild, which takes great responsibility for care of the community at large, and in particular of orphans and widows
- The Sunday School, which looks after the spiritual welfare of all children
- The Finance Committee, which monitors the use of all funds in the church
Undertaking as full a fact-find as possible, concerning:
- Welfare (basic needs) – clean water supplies; current food supply, sustainability and distribution methods; agriculture; orphans; widows; the sick; shelter; etc.
- Education – how much takes place, what kind, where does it take place, do they have trained teachers, what learning and play materials do they have, etc.
- Church and associated buildings – what are they used for, how often in the week are they used, what state of build and/or repair are they in, etc.
Establishing how they would prioritise their most pressing needs within each of the three categories above.
Setting up better communication channels where possible, including: telephone numbers, email addresses, postal addresses, banking facilities, etc.
In general, not sponsoring individuals but to use funding to support things for the greater good of many e.g. training a teacher rather than sponsoring an individual’s education.
Strongly encouraging multi-purpose use of church buildings throughout the week.
‘Project Managing’ all initiatives and requests for funding and maintaining detailed accounts.
Starting off with small projects which will help to build the individual relationships, build trust and, test our systems to ‘project manage’ initiatives
